Ever since Kent learned to play the violin at age 9, he has been writing music. They were just simple melodies written for trumpet, piano and of course the violin, but the joy of composing would stay with him for many years.

Kent played in as many groups as possible throughout his education, picking up the drums, piano, the upright and electric bass. All of these instruments enabled him to play many styles of music including jazz, classical, rock, latin, reggae/ska, country and funk.

During college, he was exposed to a rigorous study of classical and jazz idioms as well as the avant garde. It was during this time that Kent decided to pursue music as a career, both as an artist in various musical groups and as a composer for TV, film and commercials. He played bass for several years in the legendary Salt Lake City ska band, Swim Herschel Swim, performing to sold-out halls. Following the break up of this band, he co-founded another group called Swimpigs, made up of former members of Swim Herschel Swim, and played what was described as "punk jazz." Swimpigs' fast and furious jazz style was critically acclaimed. Kent eventually wound up in San Francisco, and started a new band called Slender. They quickly became a pillar of the San Francisco rock and roll scene, playing a unique blend of hard, dark and hooky music and touring extensively. He is currently in the rocking synth/punk band, King Loses Crown, with Michael Cobra of Cobra Creative.

While playing in all of these groups, Kent got his start in music production as an engineer, and eventually left the studio to become a full time composer. Recent projects have included doing music and sound design for Microsoft, Google, Sprint, The NFL and Necsel. He has had his music featured in television shows on networks such as MTV, ABC, Discovery and Biography.

He writes music that has a unique sound, but fits a particular situation perfectly. "I like music that has it's own voice," says Kent, "It's got to move you in some way."
